Amega Ranges Mini-Scout-Mount for the MIni-14
The Ruger Mini-14 is both a vernerable law enforcement and personal defense rifle and an extremely popular one. More than one very large police agency in this country continue to make it their mainstay rifle after decades of service. This little rifle, a Garand system, carbine length and an unassuming looking politically correct package, will get the job done just fine for most law enforcement and personal defense applications. Although it is inherently somewhat less accurate than an AR rifle, bear in mind that the average law enforcement patrol rifle shooting averages only about 221 yards. And, given that for the cost of a single black rifle, you can have three Mini-14s inservice, there's no reason for the Mini-14 to be the Rodney Dangerfield of law enforcement long guns.
What the Mini-14 lacks in relation to the more ppular AR family is the ability to hang all manner of new tactical accessories onto it: lasers, whither lights, optical sights, etc. White light on a defensive rifles is a necessity, of course, and the new generation of optical sights, such as the EOTech and Aimpoint, are so proven and so helpful that their lack would be a serious disadvantage to the Mini-14. That problem has been solved with Amega Ranges' Mini-Scout-Mount.
The Mini-Scout-Moun replaces the hand guard and upper gas block of the Mini-14 (including the Ranch Rifle version) - no drilling, cutting, machining or other modification to the rifle is required. The full-length sight base accommondates Weaver style or Picatinny rings and runs the entire length of the top of the mount. It is made of precision extruded and machined 6005-T6 aluminum alloy in a flat nonreflective, hard anodized finish. The sighting groove on the top of the base allows a clear field of view for use of open sights when scopes or other sidhting devices are not attached.
The Mini-Scout-Mount creates several points of contact with the barrel which produce a stiffening effect, reducting barrel vibration and "whip", which aids accuracy.
Also, Amega Ranges' Tactical Light Mount Kit is a position adjustable, short section of Picatinny rail which attaches to the side of the MIni-Scout-Mount, allowing the use of a securely mounted M3 type of light. With the combination of the Tactical Light Mount Kit and the Mini-Scout-Mount, you can turn you politically correct Mini-14 into a fully functional law enforcement rifle. The Mini-Scout-Mount doesn't add any particular extra "tactical" look to the MIni-14, and with the Mini-s standard wooden stock, the rifle look as unassuming and nonthreatening as can be. Even if you live in an area of the world where looks are irrelevant, the MIni-Scout_Mount is an extremely valuable addition to your Mini-14.
